Charles W. “Charlie” Medeiros
WESTFIELD- Charles W. “Charlie” Medeiros, 66, died Thursday, June 16th in Westfield. He was born in Athol, MA on February 13, 1945 to the late Arthur D. and Elizabeth B. (Newell) Medeiros.
He worked for the former Pease Chrysler Plymouth and Fenton Chevrolet in Westfield. He was an investigator for the State of Massachusetts for many years and most recently worked for The Bertera Dealerships and Thrifty Car Sales.
Charlie helped run the campaigns of Governor Ed King, Sheriff Michael J. Ashe Jr. and Governor’s Council Ed O’Brien, Charlie was a Parks and Recreation Commissioner from 1970-1973. He served a total of thirty years on the Westfield City Council from 1976-2009 and was elected president of the council eight times. Charlie was acting mayor of Westfield from June – December 1985 and June – December 2007.
He was avid Boston Red Sox fan with a special bond with his dear friend Luis Tiant. Charlie leaves his wife of thirteen years Kathy (Noonan) Medeiros, their children Charlie Medeiros Jr., Tammy Xavier, Nicole and Anthony Genovese all of Westfield, grandchildren Amanda and Michael Xavier, Gabriella Klinakis and Jocelyn Coira and his dog Murphy. Charlie also leaves his siblings Arthur Jr. of Huntington, Kevin of Westfield, Brian of Hatfield, Brenda Morse and Terry Clink of Westfield, Lori Medeiros of Easthampton and Karen Medeiros of Plainfield. He was predeceased by his sisters Anita Symancyk and Lynn Caplette.
The funeral for Charlie will be held on Monday June 20th at 10:30 am in St. Mary’s Church 28 Bartlett Street, Westfield. The burial will be private.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday afternoon from 4-8 pm from the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, MA.

Shawn E. Avery
RUSSELL – Shawn E. Avery, 38, of Russell, died Saturday at Noble Hospital. Born in Westfield, he has live in Russell for several years.
Shawn was employed as a truck driver for several years. He was an avid motorcycle rider and mechanic. Shawn loved music and played guitar and drums for Tin Bridge.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa (Bulewich) Avery; his son, Cody; his daughter, Susan; a granddaughter, Chloe Rose; his father, Bruce Avery; his mother, Donna Young; his stepmother, Vicki Avery; two brothers, Paul Young and Matthew Minnow; three sisters, Tina Staples, Barbara Musial and Danielle Minnow; a step-brother, Scott; a step-sister, Heather; his sisters-in-laws, Rachel and Samantha Bulewich; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ted and Susan Bulewich. Shawn left so many loving cousins and close friends, it would be impossible to name them all.
The funeral will be held Thursday, June 9, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad St., Westfield. Burial will be private. Calling hours will precede the service from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Frances C. Putnam
SOUTHWICK—Frances Clark Putnam, 90, a long time resident of Southwick, MA, died Saturday, June 4, 2011, after a long illness.
Frances Emma Clark was born October 8, 1920 in Springfield, MA to Ralph and Emma (Robbins) Clark. She was active in 4-H as a girl where she became in interested in wide array of home economics – pie baking, sewing, knitting, canning/freezing, etc. She received her primary and secondary education from West Springfield Schools and attended Massachusetts State College (currently University of Massachusetts) where she received a degree in Home Economics in 1942. Following graduation and during World War II, she was employed as a Home Demonstration Extension Agent in Windham County, Vermont.
Fran married James N. Putnam, her college sweetheart, on May 20, 1945. Immediately after their marriage, she was a housewife and devoted mother. In 1956, she and her husband founded the Putnam Farm in Southwick, MA where she developed a bakery business specializing in homemade breads, chicken pies, and a wide array of pies for sale. Over the years, she hired many local young women to assist her in the production and sale of these products as well as to teach them baking and work skills.
Although she devoted many hours to the family business, she made time to be involved in her sons’ diverse school activities and as a member of the College Highway Methodist Church. In her later years, she enjoyed arranging large family gatherings to catch up on a large extended family which included four surviving sons, nine grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. She loved to follow the educational and personal development of each of her grandchildren and shared with them her passion for the domestic arts, education, and life. In her retirement, she was active in the Southwick Historical Society and remained active at her church.
She is survived by four sons and their wives: John & Susan Putnam of Colorado Springs, Stephen Putnam & Cynthia Lydiard of Southwick, James II & Terry Putnam of Southwick, and Charles & wife Lucy Putnam of Rollinsford, NH. She is also survived by her sister, June Clark Porter and her husband, Calvin Porter. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Betty Clark. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996, an infant son, Kenneth Paul in 1955; and her brother, Robert E. Clark, in 1999.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, June 8, at the Southwick Forastiere Home, 624 College Highway, Southwick from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 9, at 2:00 p.m. at the Christ Church Methodist Church at 222 College Highway, Southwick with Pastor Susan Feurzeig officiating. Burial will follow in the Southwick Cemetery.

Ada M. Eades
WESTFIELD – Ada M. Eades, 91, of Ruskin, FL passed away on March 28, 2011.
She retired from James River Graphics after 26 years of service. She was a member of the Ruskin United Methodist Church and the Ladies Oriental Shrine.
Survivors include two sons, Michael (Sue) Eades, Sr. and Robert (Flo) Eades; three grandsons, Michael (Regina) Eades Jr., Scott (Stacy) Eades and Jeffrey Eades; five great grandchildren, Samantha, Stephanie, Sabrina, Brandon and Nicholas Eades; and one great great granddaughter, Miranda McGrath.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 10, 2011 at Mt. Moriah Lodge, 72 Broad St. Westfield at 1:00 p.m.

Ann Perzanowski Burkott
WESTFIELD – Ann Perzanowski Burkott, 98, formerly of Westfield, MA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Ashlan Village-Lyman, SC.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend to all she met. Born July 6, 1912, in Westfield, MA, she was the daughter of the late Wladyslaw “Walter” and Aniela Mieczkowski Perzanowski and wife of the late Peter Paul Burkott, Sr. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Donald William Burkott; three brothers, Joseph Perzanoski, Edward Perzanowski, and Wesley Perzanowski; and two sisters, Frances Mary Perzanowski Schott, and Eugenia Perzanowski Knapik.
Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Jean Burkott Becker and husband S. Lee Becker of Spartanburg; a son, Peter Paul Burkott, Jr. and wife Diana Audrey Blandford of Hendersonville, NC; five grandchildren, Diana Lynn Sherbert Hardin and husband Allen of Blacksburg, SC, Steven Glenn Sherbert and wife Crystal Dawn of Spartanburg, Major Michael Gregory Burkott and wife Collin Mae of Ramstein AFB-Germany, Douglas Edward Burkott and wife Jaime Nichole of Overland Park, KA, and Denis Paul Burkott of Rockford, IL; five great-grandchildren, Bradley James Smith and wife Lacey Cooksey of Blacksburg, SC, Justin Tyler Burkott and Thomas Peter Burkott of Ramstein AFB-Germany, Piper Nichole and Zoe Eliza Burkott of Overland Park, KA; and two great-great-grandchildren, Mason and Gavon Smith of Blacksburg, SC.
A resident of Westfield, MA for 85 years, she moved to Spartanburg, SC in 1998 to live with her daughter. She was a teacher in Westfield, MA and taught in the WPA Pre-School Program, grades 1-5 and was assistant principal at Moseley School, a remedial reading teacher at Abner Gibbs School, Ashley St. School, Highland St. School, and Prospect Hill School. She also assisted in organizing the Sunday School Program at St. Joseph’s National Catholic Church in Westfield, MA. She was a Sunday School teacher and superintendent of St. Joseph’s National Catholic Church School of Christian Living. Ann graduated from Westfield High School and State College of Westfield with honors, she received a Masters in Education from State College, a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Educational Administration from the University of Massachusetts, with additional graduate work from the University of Connecticut, University of Rhode Island, Springfield College, and American International College in Massachusetts. Professional affiliations: National Education Association, Massachusetts Teachers Association, Westfield Teachers Association, Chi Chapter, Alpha Upsilon State Delta Kappa Gamma International and transfer of her membership to Alpha Mu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Spartanburg, SC.
Recently, she was honored with 50 years of membership in Delta Kappa Gamma. She co-authored, Programmed vs. Basal Readers in Remedial Reading for the Reading Teacher. She was also the editor-in-chief of the Golden Jubilee Book for St. Joseph’s NC Church and had the distinct honor of appearing in the 1971 edition of “Community Leaders of America”. She is a communicant of St. Joseph’s National Catholic Church in Westfield and while living in Spartanburg, SC, attended St. James United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2011, at Firtion Adams Funeral Services, 76 Broad St., Westfield. Service will be held at 9:00 a.m., Friday, June 10, 2011, at the Firtion Adams Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s National Catholic Church, Westfield, MA, conducted by the Very Rev. Joseph Soltysiak. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s National Catholic Church Cemetery.

Arthur A. Blanchette
AGAWAM – Arthur A. “Boppie” Blanchette, 95, passed away on May 28, 2011 at Heritage Hall in Agawam. He was born in Holyoke, MA on July 9, 1915.
He was predeceased by his wife, Natalie (Kowalski) Blanchette, and his daughter, Diane McGuy. He is survived by his daughter, Linda (Markewicz) Doiron, of Westfield; his grandsons, Robert Markewicz, of Huntington, Brian Markewicz, (Mandy), of Chester, and Paul Markewicz, (Missy), of Russell; his granddaughter, Debra McGuy, of CT; his sister, Edna Delisle, of Chicopee; nine great grandchildren and extended family members and friends. There will be a graveside service with full military honors on Thursday, June 9, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Westfield. A reception will follow at the VFW on Rt. 20 in Russell, MA.

LEOMINSTER – Frederick A. Moore, Jr., 92 years old, of Holyoke, formerly of Leominster, died Sunday, June 5, 2011 in the Holyoke Health Care Center. Born in Amesbury on July 18, 1918, son of Frederick A. and Miriam (Delano) Moore, Sr. he lived in Leominster for many years before moving to Western Massachusetts 2 years ago.
He is survived by his son, Robert O. Moore and his wife Rose-Marie Moore of Westfield, a sister, Elizabeth Arndt of Las Cruces, NM; two step grandchildren, Anthony Silva and Thomas Silva. He was predeceased by his wife, Janet E. (Hiltz) Moore in 1977 and by his sister June Goodwin.

Lillian S. Schmalenberg
HOLYOKE – Lillian S. Schmalenberg, passed away on the 25th of May at Loomis House one day before her 93rd birthday. Miss Schmalenberg was born on May 26, 1917, in Holyoke, the daughter of Adam and Anna Schmalenberg.
She is survived by four nephews, Leonard Robbins of Gales Ferry Connecticut, Ronald Robbins of East Beach, Rhode Island, James Robbins of West Ossipee, New Hampshire, and Walter “Buddy” Schmalenberg of Granby, Massachusetts; a niece, Ellie Siska of Westfield, Massachusetts; and a sister-in-law, Gladys Schmalenberg of Granby, Massachusetts. Lillian was predeceased by a niece, Carol Seavey of Saugus, Massachusetts; a brother, Walter Schmalenberg of Granby, Massachusetts; and a sister, Elsie Robbins of Blandford, Massachusetts.

Arthur Blanchette
AGAWAM – Arthur “Boppie” Blanchette, 95, passed away on May 28, 2011 at Heritage Hall in Agawam. He was born in South Hadley on July 9, 1915.
He was a proud and loyal American who served in World War II and was highly decorated. In his early years he ran the Showboat in Hampton Ponds. Later in life he worked at Hamilton Standard in CT. before he retired. His passion was jogging, which he did daily and was an avid outdoorsman.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Natalie (Kowalski) Blanchette in 2000 and by his daughter, Diane McGuy. He is survived by and will be greatly missed by his daughter, Linda (Markewicz) Doiron of Westfield; grandsons, Robert Markewicz of Huntington, Brian Markewicz and wife Mandy of Chester, Paul Markewicz and wife Missy of Russell; his granddaughter, Debra McGuy of Connecticut; his sister, Edna Deusce of Chicopee; he also leaves extended family members and friends. “Boppie, you were special and you’ll be deeply missed. I love you Dad, go in peace.”

Joseph Miranda, Jr.
WINDSOR, CT. – Joseph Miranda Jr., 67, of died unexpectedly on Sunday, May 29, 2011. He was born in New Bedford, MA to the late Joseph Miranda Sr. and Mabel Miranda.
He was a retired Air Force member who proudly served his country for 23 years and was a decorated Vietnam Veteran. After retiring from military service he worked at Hamilton Sundstrand in Windsor Locks, CT as a Software Configuration Manager. For many years Joe was an active member of the Windsor Palette and Brush Club and displayed many of his oil paintings locally.
His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family who were the center of his world. Joe and the love of his life Barbara were married for 44 years. He brought warmth, humor, joy, and kindness to all whose lives he touched.
He leaves his beloved wife, Barbara Jean Miranda; his children, MSgt. Donna J. Miranda of Ludlow, MA; his son, Joseph W. Miranda and his wife Jessica of Gaffney, SC; and the pride and joys of his life, his grandchildren, Lindsey Kelso his “Sunshine”, Nicholas Kelso his “pal”, Elisabeth Mae “Princess”, Juliana Kelso his “Little Diva” and the light of his life and little buddy Dominic “Bubba” Maia. He also leaves his siblings, Mabel Armelin, Michael and wife Martha, Stephen and David Miranda. His brother-in-law Thomas Matthews and his brother & sister-in-law and best pals Kenneth and Antoinette Matthews. His dear friends Kathy and Bob Monaco and Bonnie Matthews. He also leaves many loving nieces and nephews.

Dorothy K. Miller
WESTFIELD – Dorothy K. “Dottie” (Olejarz) Miller, 81, of Westfield died peacefully at home on Thursday, May 26, 2011. She was born in Chicopee on July 28, 1929 to Albert and Josephine K. (Lukasz) Olejarz.
She graduated from Chicopee High School in 1946 and from the Mercy School of nursing in 1949. She was employed as a Registered Nurse at Westfield State College for nineteen years, retiring in 1998. Prior to the college she worked for many years at the Noble Hospital Maternity Ward until its closing. She also worked at the Holy Child Guild and Camp Togawauk in Westfield.
Dorothy was the widow of John H. “Jack 13″ Miller the love of her life, who died in 1979. She leaves a son, Michael Miller and his wife Kim of Westfield; four daughters, Martha Brown and her husband Bob of Westfield; Sheila Ball of Spokane Washington; Mary J. Adamus and her husband Joe of Calgary, Alberta, Canada and Dorothy K. ‘Dorry” Sadakierski and her husband Stan of Westfield. She also leaves nine grandchildren; Jeffrey Brown, Jennifer Graham, Jeremiah and Joshua Ball, Heather Adamus, Max Miller, Kayleigh Paradis, Katie and Jenna Sadakierski and five great grandchildren; Grace and Liam Brown, Madyson and Eyden Graham-Ball and Teanna McDonald-Ball. Dorothy was predeceased by her devoted and loving son, John H. Miller in 2010, three brothers; Charles, Frederick and William Olejarz.

Elizabeth G. Savage
WESTFIELD – Elizabeth Grace” Betty” Savage passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, May 28th. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, she was the daughter of John and Laura (Martin) Rice.
Betty and her family moved to Westfield in 1937 and she graduated from Westfield High School in 1943. In November of 1944, she met William Savage, and married him one month later on Christmas Day. Together they had four children. Betty and Bill had many, many friends who they enjoyed spending time with over their 52 years of marriage. She was predeceased by her husband in 1996, also her brother Dick, his wife Penny and her brother Herbert.
Betty worked for many years in local restaurants including Ye Ole Whip, Points East, and most recently the Westwood Restaurant. Betty was recognized by many and loved by all who knew her.
Betty will be greatly missed by her children Judy Neumann, and her husband Bruce; Sandy Perzanowski and her husband Alan; Daniel Savage and his wife Laura all of Westfield; and Brenda Spath and her husband Glenn of Southampton with whom she lived. Betty was very proud of her family. She leaves behind twelve grandchildren, Scott and Amy Neumann; Michael McGrievey, Kelly Lepak and Tommy Thomas; Billy and Derek Savage; Stephani Bracey, Jenny Wallace; Elizabeth Moulton, Adam and Ellen Spath who adore her, and nineteen great grand children; Christina Kozlowski, Garrett, McKenzie, and Cassidy Neumann, PJ Hoynoski, Chloe and Jack McGrievey, Ashley, Chelsea, Max and Emma Lepak, Sam, Caleb, and Noah Thomas, Aiden and Nora Wallace, Jordan Bracey-Moure and Jaedon Warren, Evan Moulton and one great grandchild on the way. She also leaves her sister-in-law Millie Rice; her nieces and nephews Jack, Cheryl, Melissa, and Herbert. Betty was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist church.

Donald W. Duperrault
WESTFIELD – Donald Weston Duperrault, 88, of Westfield passed away quietly on Thursday May 26th at the Governors House where he had been a patient for the last eight years. Born in Westfield, the son of the late Noah and Doryce (Weston) Duperrault.
Don was an employee of the Westfield Gas & Electric Company for 31 years retiring as Manager. Prior to the G&E he was employed at the First National Bank. He was a WWII Army Veteran serving in the European Theater. Don was also a member of the First United Methodist Church for 76 years where he served as trustee, clerk and treasurer for many years. He was actively involved in the Methodist Men’s Club and was a Sunday school teacher. In retirement he was involved at Noble and Western Mass Hospitals as a clerical volunteer.
Don and his wife, the former Barbara Frisbie, have been married for 60 years. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Glenn Porter Duperrault and his wife Lydia; a daughter, Jean Tom and three granddaughters, Alicia and Hanah Tom and Amanda Wishart. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the friends and staffers at Governors House for their loving care.
A memorial service followed by a reception will be held Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 16 Court Street, Westfield. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in West Granville Cemetery. Calling hours will be omitted.

Ruth F. Simons
SOUTHWICK – Ruth F. Simons, 95, of 1 Sawmill Park, passed away Monday, May 23rd at Noble Hospital in Westfield. Born June 2, 1915 in Enfield, CT., Ruth was the daughter of the late Frank & Katherine (Wells) Simons.
She was a graduate of Enfield High School, attended Central Connecticut State University & the University of Connecticut College of Insurance. Ruth was the office manager and assistant treasurer for many years for A.W. Borawski, Inc. of Northampton, MA., retiring in 1979. She was a Certified Professional Insurance Woman, a past president of the Mass. Association of Insurance Women, Springfield Chapter. She was a member of the National Accounting Association & Secretary of Westfield Business and Professional Women’s Club. In addition, Ruth was a member of the Westfield Women’s Club and the Western Hampden Historical Society.

ENFIELD, CT. – Harry L. Gove, 92, of Enfield passed away Friday, May 27th at home with his family by his side. Born and raised in Central Bridge, NY., Harry was a resident of Westfield, MA for 52 years prior to moving to Enfield in 2000.
He was a retired longtime owner-operator of his own accounting firm, retiring in 1997 after many years of service. Harry was a 50 year member of the Grand Lodge of New Hampshire and was also a member of the Melha Shriner’s in Springfield. He enjoyed antique cars, camping and spending time with his family.
Harry leaves his son, Timothy L. Gove and his daughters, Leslie Pistilli and Teresa Drolette. Four grandchildren; Sarah Drolette, Catie Temple, and Matt and Drew Pitilli. Five great-grandchildren; Gwen, Teddy, Dominic, Wyatt and Matthew, along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Mary (Sanville) in 1980.
Funeral services for Harry will be Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. from the Robert E. Cusack Funeral Home, 94 Main Street – Route 20, with a graveside service at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Cemetery, both in Westfield. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

HOLYOKE – Linda A. LeBlanc, 68, passed away Friday, May 27, 2011 at the Holyoke Medical Center. Born in Holyoke on August 28, 1942, a daughter of the late William and Helen (Obuchowski) Jackimek.
She is survived by her husband, Edward P. LeBlanc; her son, Jason LeBlanc of Holyoke; three grandchildren; five sisters, Susan Evans of Holyoke; Judy Provost of Holyoke; Lana Hough of Florida; Debbie Jackimek of Turners Falls; Nancy McGuilicuddy of Westfield; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Jackie Jackimek and two sisters, Carol “Cookie” Carter and Pat Jackimek.

LUDLOW – David A. Cambo, 74, passed away Friday, May 27 at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Palmer, March 6, 1937, he was the son of Walter H. and Eileen (Rowe) Cambo.
He is survived by his wife Arline L. (Nadeau) Cambo; five children, Cynthia Hamel, Glenn Cambo and Lynn Stearns, all of Belchertown, Mark Cambo of W. Brookfield, and Sandra Cambo of Westfield; 3 step children, Joanne Shaw and William Eagen of Ludlow, and Kenneth Eagen of Feeding Hills; siblings, Paul Cambo of Wilbraham, Geraldine Allen of Springfield, Margot Garstka of Chicopee, and Joyce Sawyer of Ludlow; brother-in-law, Paul Bigos of Three Rivers and close friends Donald and Patricia Farrell of Bondsville. Fifteen grandchildren,three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his siblings, Arlyn Cambo, Philip and Jeanne Bigos.

Stanley J. Penza
WESTFIELD – Stanley Joseph Penza of 15 Laurel Terrace, Westfield passed away on May 23, 2011 at The Hospice of the Fisher Home in Amherst. He was born in Sunderland on January 17, 1920, the first son of William and Mary (Zaluski) Penza.
Educated in Sunderland schools and graduated from Deerfield High School. Following graduation, he traveled to New Jersey where he trained for a career in refrigeration and appliance service. During WW II, he was excused from military service to work in his field at Westover Air Force Base while living in the Springfield area. Following WW II, he briefly owned an appliance firm in Vermont and then returned to Westfield where he was employed by C.P. Payson. After his retirement, he worked in the plumbing department of Serve-U in Westfield.
He married the former June Taber of Westfield on May 2, 1948 and they lived happily in Westfield until she passed away in June, 1986. He was also predeceased by his brother, Edward of Sunderland and niece, Katie Henry of Greenfield in 2010. He is survived by his brother, Chester Penza and his wife Eileen of Amherst; two sisters, Lucille Henry of Greenfield and Irene Farrick and her husband Ralph of Whately; his brother-in-law, Gary Taber of Westfield and his wife Mary Ann. In addition, he leaves his nieces and nephews, David Penza and his son, Thomas; Gary Penza and his children, Samantha and Charlie, Alison Penza; Eric Penza and his wife Michelle and children, Daniel and Christopher all of Sunderland; Lynn Penza of Amherst; William Farrick of Boston, and James Farrick of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.; Alan Henry and his wife Gina of Shelburne Falls and their son, Robert of Las Vegas; Michael Taber and his wife Stacy and son, Chase of Plainville, CT. and Jennifer Taber of Westfield.

Audrey R. Sherman
WESTFIELD – Audrey R. Sherman, a life-long resident of Westfield, died Sunday, May 22 at a local nursing home. She was born June 16, 1916 in a house built by her father, and was the cherished only child of Arthur C. and Clara (Pomeroy) Sherman.
After graduation from Westfield High School, she attended Bay Path College and worked as a private secretary at the Eastern States Farmers Exchange, as a church secretary, and later at The Stitchery.
After her mother’s death in 1956, she cared for her father until he died in 1967. After retirement, Audrey delved into her family history and was very proud of her Sherman, Pomeroy, Byington, Hovey, and Chester roots, and the Williams family from Little Dean in Gloucestershire, England. She regularly visited the Westfield Athenaeum, and was an informal reference person for the staff on questions about Westfield. She was an avid birder and traveled to many places, including Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge in Florida and the Canadian Rockies with her friend Liz Skinner who died last year.
Her closest living relative is her second cousin, Barbara (Sherman) Andrews. Audrey shared her extensive knowledge and love of the natural world with her friends Pat, Ann & Woody, Tianna, Charlie & Mairi, Steve, Don & Bev, Kitty, Donna, Jan, Joyce, Joan, & Peggy, all of whom she cared for deeply.
A graveside service will be held at the Sherman family plot at Pine Hill Cemetery on Thursday, May 26 at 1:00 p.m. Firtion-Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Raymond Tomasini, Sr.
WESTFIELD – Raymond J. Tomasini Sr., 86, of this city, died Friday at home. Born in Southwick, he has lived in Westfield the last forty-five years. He is predeceased by his parents, Jack and Louise (Zanetti) Tomasini and step-father Bert Cressotti.
He was a retired Chief Master Sergeant in the US Air Force and was a decorated veteran of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal, China Service Medal, Longevity Service Award Ribbon Four, Good Conduct Medal Air Force, Good Conduct Medal Army 1 Bronze, Outstanding Unit Award, American Campaign Medal W/3 BSS, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Japan Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal W/4 BSS, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Small Arms Expert Membership Ribbon, NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon, and Badge of Honor Formosa.
He was the Chairman of the State Disabled American Veterans Audit Committee, a member of Chapter 68 of the DAV, a member of the Russell VFW Post 6645, a member of the Westfield Vietnam Veterans of America, Vice-Commander of the State Disabled American Veterans, Commander of the Disabled American Veterans District Council #6, Golden Rodent Dugout 502, National Order of Trench Rats, a charter member, and past Commander of DAV Chapter #11 of Westover, past Commander of the Italian American War Veterans Post 59 of Springfield, and was a member of the Westfield Honor Guard.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Levoy (Korb) Tomasini; a son, Raymond Jr., of Westfield; two daughters, Tina and her husband Brian Thieme of PA., Lisa and her husband Roger Goudreau of Southampton, and six grand children; William, Joseph, Michael, Gabrielle, Cooper and Kyle. He is also predeceased by his brothers, Silvio and Thomas Tomasini and his sisters, Angie Tresnak, Betty Conners, Emma Grabowski and Catherine Sawyer.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 12:00 p.m. at the Firtion-Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad Street, Westfield. WESTFIELD – Adolph Edward Tefts, 86, of this city, died Saturday at home. He was born in Westfield. He was the owner of Tefts Farm, a longtime family farm.
Adolph stayed at home during World War II to take care of the farm and his mother. He was a graduate of the former Westfield Trade School. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
He was predeceased by seven siblings; Amelia C. Nash, Helena K. Deluca, William G. Tefts, Julius J. Tefts, John A. Tefts, Louis F. Tefts, and August M. Tefts. He is survived by two sisters, Miriam A. Reed of Westfield, Edna W. Borges of Westport, MA.; several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews. He also leaves his friends, Lou and George of Westfield.

WESTFIELD – Lindalee “Lee” M. (Dorman) Couture, 70, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at home. She was born in Holyoke, MA on December 14, 1940.
She was the wife of Raymond A. “Skip” Couture and mother of Paris Lee.
Before moving to Westfield from Paris Farm in Somers, CT in 1997 she and her family was involved for many years in breeding, training and showing horses. She was passionately interested in the welfare of all animals and the ultimate care she could provide for her pets.

Howard J. Allen
WESTFIELD – Howard J. Allen, 89, passed away peacefully on May 8th at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Westfield in 1922 and was a lifelong resident.
He was a WWII veteran and served as a Paratrooper in the Battle Of The Bulge and Normandy. He was employed as an Electrician for Stevens Paper Company for over thirty years and later for the Westfield School Department.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Lois of Westfield; three daughters, Kathy Seibert and her husband Dale; Susan O’Brien and her husband Frank both of Westfield, and Nancy Beck of GA. He also leaves six grandchildren and 18 and 1/2 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Kupec and Joan Welch; a brother, William Fleming and several nieces and nephews.
A private funeral was held at the convenience of the family with burial in the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Agawam, MA.

Richard J. Dame
WESTFIELD – Richard J. Dame, 66, of Russell died Sunday, May 15, 2011 in Noble Hospital. He was born on August 18, 1944 in Westfield, son of the late Louis and Catherine (McGlynn) Dame.
He attended Springfield Trade School and was employed as a Millwright at International Paper formerly Strathmore Paper Co., in Russell for twenty years, retiring in 2006. He also worked at Texon in Russell.
Richard was a member of the Russell Fire Department for thirty-one years, serving as Chief from 1983-2001. He was a Vietnam Veteran and was a member of American Legion Post 338 in Southwick. He enjoyed boating, skiing, hiking, fishing and hunting and riding his motorcycle.
He survived by his wife of 44 years, Kathleen M. (Brennan) Dame and his children; Richard J. Dame and his wife Michele of Blandford, Christopher L. Dame and his wife Christine of Russell and Darlene A. Grady of Westfield. He also leaves a brother, Louis Dame and his wife Winifred of Huntington and a sister, Mary Malanson of Russell; seven grandchildren, Kayla, Kelsey, Samantha, Gabrielle, Anna, Hallie and Olivia. He was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Riley.
The funeral will be Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad St., Westfield, MA with burial to follow in Russell Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday prior to the service from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
